The Smarter Way to Internet

Dial access acceptable use policy (all unmetered products)

52 Definitions

52.1 "Unmetered Internet dial access component" means the component that allows you to connect to the Internet on our Connect range of products using a 0808 number.

52.2 "0845 local rate access component" means the component that allows you to connect to the Internet using an 0845 number

53 Connect Accounts
The fixed cost Internet dial access element of your product is based on a contended service. This policy contains guidelines on how long you can stay connected to the service and outlines the actions PlusNet will take to ensure that your usage remains within the design of your product.

Allowed Connection Time
The amount of time you can spend connected to the service is measured over a 7-day period and is limited. The limit depends on which product you have chosen, as follows:

Anytime Home Products 7-day allowance
Anytime Lite 5 hours
Anytime Standard 40 hours
Anytime Premier 70 hours
Anytime Premier + 100 hours

Anytime Business Products 7-day allowance
Anytime Lite 50 hours
Anytime Standard 100 hours
Anytime Premier 730 hours *
Anytime Premier + Not applicable

Connect Products 7-day allowance
Connect Start 5 hours
Connect Lite 20 hours
Connect Standard 40 hours
Connect Heavy 70 hours
Connect Always On Not applicable
Connect Biz Lite 50 hours
Connect Biz 84 hours
Connect Biz Always On Not applicable

* Provides an always-on connection on a single line. Using ISDN channel-bonding requires two simultaneous connections and will therefore double the rate at which time is used. For example, a user who connects with channel-bonded ISDN for an hour will use two hours of their allowance.

If you exceed the 7-day allowance for your chosen product, the policing system will be invoked accordingly:
1st Infringement - An advance notification email to your postmaster@<username>.plus.com address. Your usage will then be calculated from the date of this first infringement for the next 7 days' allowance.

2nd Infringement - A final advance notification email and advice to upgrade to a more appropriate product. Your usage will then be calculated from the date of this second infringement for the next 7 days' allowance.

3rd Infringement - You will receive a notification email and your Connect unmetered dial-up access will be suspended until you choose to upgrade to the product most suited to your continued usage. (Your email, webspace and other account features will not be affected and will remain available by using our 0845 local rate access numbers.)

If during any consecutive 30-day monitoring period you do not exceed your fair-use quota, the sequence of automated e-mails will return to zero.
Idling
"Idling" is prohibited on this service and will take actions to maintain quality of service levels to all our customers.
Your usage is considered as idling when you are connected to the service without actively using the connection (for example to browse the web or send e-mail etc.)

Maximum Single Connection Durations
In order to maximise service availability for all customers on our more popular products, PlusNet operates maximum single connection durations. This works by using a timer which automatically disconnects you after a set time online expires. How often this happens depends on which product you have chosen. The connection duration timer is automatically reset when you re-connect to the Internet, as follows:

Anytime Home Products Maximum Single Connection Duration:
Anytime Lite 1 hour
Anytime Standard 24 hours
Anytime Premier 24 hours
Anytime Premier + 24 hours

Anytime Business Products Maximum Single Connection Duration:
Anytime Lite 24 hours
Anytime Standard 24 hours
Anytime Premier Not applicable
Anytime Premier + Not applicable

Connect Products Maximum Single Connection Duration:
Connect Start 30 minutes
Connect Lite 1 hour
Connect Standard 24 hours
Connect Heavy 24 hours
Connect Always On Not applicable
Connect Biz Lite 24 hours
Connect Biz 24 hours
Connect Biz Always On Not applicable

This system does not affect how much time you can spend online; it simply determines when you will next be automatically disconnected. This system does not prevent reconnection to the service. You should still continue to disconnect as normal once you have finished using the service.
